The roots of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home can be traced back to 1893 when the C.M. Livery Feed and Sale Stable decided to start building caskets and renting horse and wagon transport to cemeteries for burial. In 1937, the business began focusing solely on funerals. The business located to North Church Street in 1972, where it still stands today, a modern facility meeting the needs of a changing society and a well-respected leader in providing service to the Bibb County region. Now four generations of Fletchers strong, Bob Fletcher and Darren Day oversee the oldest same-family-owned business in the county.

Traditional Values and Progressive Options

Fletcher-Day Funeral Home stands by the traditional values upon which it was built, while integrating state-of-the-art technologies and offering customization to meet the needs of the families it serves. Progressive and personalized options include maintaining an active website rich in information, online pre-planning, video tributes, and other innovative options.

Cremation Services

Fletcher-Day Funeral Home offers cremation services available with or without funeral or memorial services. When choosing direct cremation, we will forego the embalming and viewing stage and, as a result, this can be a less costly option than a traditional funeral. While we understand costs may not be the foremost thing in your mind at a time of loss, these expenses can be a worry, and direct cremation will lessen those costs. Cremation is a manner in which a family can choose to deal with their loved one's physical remains, but it doesn't limit the options available for honoring the life of a loved one. Cremation, combined with a funeral or memorial service, provides a meaningful experience through which family and friends can gather and allow the healing journey to begin.

Under the pressure of a need to return to work and resume normal activities, people often feel they don't have enough time to grieve. After cremation, a family may choose to scatter the remains of a loved one in a place that was special to them. Unfortunately, it often leaves those left behind without a permanent place to connect with the memories of their loved one. All cremated remains, or a portion of cremated remains, may be interred at a cremation garden, cemetery, or mausoleum as a comfort to loved ones and an anchor to a family's personal history.

Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is proud to provide services to the city of Upson, Georgia. Known today for its industry, prior to the Civil War, Upson was renowned for its schools and railroad. Located 60 miles south of Atlanta, 45 miles west of Macon, and 50 miles east of Columbus, Upson is conveniently located as an escape from big city life, where residents can relax and bask in the natural beauty of the area.

Sweet and soulful, the city of Macon features an eclectic blend of spectacular architecture with an urban downtown replete with some of the finest dining and entertainment options available in the South. Visitors can tour Civil War sites, art galleries, and museums, take in a Hawks, Falcons, or Braves game or spend the day at a State Park. Fletcher-Day Family Home serves the Macon community with integrity and distinction.

Reynolds Cremation Service Provider

Fletcher-Day Funeral Home further provides services to the town of Reynolds, located directly next to Butler. Reynolds also has a listing on the National Register of Historic Places, with the Ferdinand Augustus Ricks House, built in 1905.

It was in 1853 that Reynolds got its name, but no one can recall from where. Perhaps it was named for John Reynolds, who was a Georgia governor. Brick buildings began to appear around 1886, and four years later Earl Little, Sr., father of Malcolm X, was born in Reynolds. Earl Little, Sr. didn’t stay in Reynolds for long, as around the third or fourth grade he lost an eye to a violent incident. The full details of this incident are also left unknown. In 1897, Reynolds got its first bank. To this day it remains a lovely place to visit.

Cremation Services

Cremation services are becoming a very common and popular way to deal with post-death physical remains. Not only is the process quick, but it is also much more affordable than burial in a coffin. You do not have to purchase a casket, and the urns that store the ashes can come in endless types and sizes. These range from simple boxes to ornate, jeweled urns. They sometimes include references to hobbies or things the deceased enjoyed while they were alive.

The cremation process can be paired with a regular memorial service to be designed however desired. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is also able to incorporate a graveside service even when a body has been cremated, as the ashes can be buried like a casket. The costs of these services are much less than traditional casket burials.

Fletcher-Day Funeral Home prides itself on the length of time that it has been in business. The fact that four generations of families have run this home since prior to the 20th century is a testament to their service to the community. They know that this is a hard time and that funerals are very stressful life events. The home has a licensed grief management staff to help with the whole process. Their goal is to provide a service that celebrates the life of the deceased in the most professional way possible. They also have state-of-the-art facilities and staff, and we are proud to have them as our preferred cremation service provider for Talbot County.

We are also available to help you make special tribute or memorial arrangements and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you at any time. Please call us at (706) 956-5203.

We look forward to serving you.

On Cremation

One of the services available in the Fletcher Day Funeral Home of Georgia is cremation. Cremation renders the physical remains of the deceased into a fine powder. Cremation is currently chosen as the preferred method of disposition of final remains by 40% of families. All indications point toward the trend growing and it will be chosen by more than 50% of households by 2018. Cremation is always performed under very strict guidelines in a tightly controlled process that ensures proper identification, individual cremation, and that the deceased is treated with dignity and respect at all times.

Cremation is a more cost-effective measure than traditional burial, eliminating the need for embalming, a casket, and burial. Cremation is also considered a more environmentally friendly option, preserving resources such as chemicals, wood, metal, and cement. Additionally, without the need for traditional burial, already limited green space is preserved.

Many religions and creeds are now accepting of cremation, and some embrace it as the only acceptable method of final disposition. Sikhs and Buddhists believe that cremation frees the spirit from the body. Cremation is an option that resonates with the mobile lifestyles of today.

More than ever, people are moving to multiple locations in their lifetimes. Cremated remains are easily transported in an urn, eliminating the need for concern about tending to a cemetery plot and allowing family to keep a remembrance of a loved one close.

We are also available to help you make special tribute or memorial arrangements and would welcome the opportunity to speak with you at any time. Please call us at (706) 956-5203.

We look forward to serving you.

Families in the Thomaston and Lamar County region have trusted Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with the care of loved ones for decades. The roots of the business can be traced back to 1893, when it began as a casket-building side business of a feed and sale stable. Before long, the business began renting out carts and horses to transport loved ones for burial, and by the 1930s, the business shifted solely to funeral care.

In its current location since 1972, Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is a leader in the community with modern facilities, a dedication to excellence, and a commitment to service with integrity.

The Fletcher-Day Funeral Home offers cremation as one of its available services. Cremation is the process by which the remains of the deceased are rendered to a fine powder through a process of heat and evaporation. Cremation is a popular and growing option for many reasons including affordability, religious preferences, and environmental concerns.

When direct cremation is performed, it is not required to perform embalming or hold a visitation. As a result, the costs of services can be lowered, which can help to reduce stress at an already challenging time. Bear in mind that if a family wishes to have a public or private visitation, it is possible to embalm the deceased, prepare them for viewing, and then perform the cremation after the funeral service.

Cremation is sometimes chosen for religious reasons. Some faiths, including Buddhism and Sikhism, believe that the spirit is freed from the body through the process of cremation.

Lastly, a common reason for choosing cremation is concern for the environment. A traditional burial requires the use of many resources, including wood, steel, concrete, fabrics, and chemicals. When cremation is performed, these resources can be preserved. Additionally, when traditional burial is not required, limited green space can also be preserved.

Barnesville, a small city of 6,700, serves as the county seat of Lamar County, GA. Barnesville was first settled in 1826 and was a stop for the passing stage lines that allowed horses to be refreshed and weary travelers to grab a bite to eat before returning to the road. As the railroad came through in the 1840s, the town began to grow, with the heart of the community centered on the train depot.

During the Civil War, Barnesville was home to many field hospitals, and a section of the local Greenwood Cemetery was set aside for Confederate soldiers who lost their lives in battle. After the war, Barnesville prospered in the buggy industry and the production of cotton crops. In the early 1900s, the city featured many amusements and boarding houses for the convenience and enjoyment of those passing through on the train. After World War II, soldiers were incentivized to build in Barnesville with offers of $10 lots, which led to a construction boom.

Today, Gordon State College is a big draw for the city, and much of the housing and retail activity is driven by students. Each year, there's a Battle of the Bones festival in Barnesville that includes a variety of soul and blues music and some of the best barbecue in Georgia. The Barnesville Buggy Festival is a three-day event with concerts, streets dances, arts and crafts, and a parade, all in honor of Barnesville ties to the buggy-building industry. Visitors can tour the Old Jail Museum and Historic Carnegie Library.

Milner is a small rural community of 600 friends and neighbors located in the heart of Georgia. Easily accessible by major traffic thoroughfares, Milner remains uncongested and peaceful. Cremation is associated with lower overall costs. Some funeral related costs include burial, headstone, and embalming. These are not required when cremation is chosen. If expense is of significant concern, funeral services can be avoided entirely and direct cremation can be performed. However, when choosing cremation, it is possible to have a traditional funeral service with viewing, if so desired.

Cremation has also grown in popularity due to environmental concerns. Some of the resources required for traditional burial, such as concrete, wood, metal, fabrics, and embalming fluid are not needed for cremation and so can preserved. Burial is also not needed, freeing up additional green space that would otherwise be used.

Cremation may be an excellent choice for many as we transition into being a more mobile society. People move across states and to other regions more so today than ever. The idea of leaving a loved one behind in a cemetery with no one to care for the grave can be a troubling notion. Because the cremated remains of a loved one can be retained in an urn, many people like the idea of being able to take their loved one with them wherever life’s journey may take them.

Cremation is performed in a strictly regulated environment and in a tightly controlled process. This ensures that cremated remains are never misidentified, that each cremation is individual, that cremations are properly witnessed (including by family members, if they wish), and that the deceased is treated with dignity and respect at all times.
